The yeast Pichia pastoris is an important host for the production of recombinant secreted proteins of biopharmaceutical interest. In the present project, different approaches to improve productivity by genetic engineering will be pursued.
Analytical methods for the quantification of proteins (including HPLC)
State-of-the art molecular biology and cloning
Cultivation of microorganisms in small scale and bioreactors
Purification of proteins
Detailed protocolling of the experimental work
Contribution to general lab organisation
In the best way you have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biotechnology or a similar study. Research experiences in the following areas would be fine:
Practical experience in molecular biology techniques and cultivation of microbial strains in shake flasks required
Practical experience and interest in bioreactor cultivations desired
Excellent skills in spoken and written English
Organized approach with strong attention to detail and good communication skills with ability to work well in teams.
You are working in an enjoyable work climate, have numerous possibilities for further education and personal development. You are part of a challenging and helpful work environment full of team spirit and enthusiasm for your job. You expand your expertise and bridge your science to industry. We offer you fully flexible working hours and a package of voluntary social benefits (e.g. meal vouchers or tickets for public transport) are also part of our modern corporate culture. And not to forget: You make your research visible and broaden your network!
Research will take place at the Institute of Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology in the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science at BOKU University.
