Postdoctoral Research Associate

Extent of employment:                 40 hours per week

Duration of employment:             July/August 2022, limited to 31st of December 2023

Workplace:   1190 Vienna, Muthgasse 11 and all other places for the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1 lit. b, € 4.061,50


  • Independent research activity and collaboration in research work at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology within the framework of an FWF-funded Coronavirus research project
  • Tasks will cover recombinant expression and purification of viral glycoproteins and Virus-like particles in mammalian and insect cell lines and protein analytics
  • Collaboration in the supervision of practical courses/lectures in the field of applied virology and vaccine development
  • Collaboration in the supervision, acquisition and management of research projects with a focus on medical biotechnology, applied virology, Covid19 research
  • Publication activity
  • Co-supervision of bachelor and master theses and dissertations
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation measures

Required skills and qualifications

  • Doctoral degree/PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or a related field
  • Expertise and scientific practice in the fields of molecular biology, (applied) virology, cell biology
  • Experience with molecular cloning, cell culture, column chromatography-based protein purification and protein analytics
  • Profound knowledge in statistics, experience in the analysis of data and mastery of appropriate software programs
  • Ideally, experience with protein- and cell-based immuno assays, microscopy, protein engineering and the work with viruses
  • Reliable and precise experimental execution
  • High level of organization and motivation
  • Flexible adaptation to quickly changing work environments
  • Independent working style and ability to collaborate with senior scientists
  • Relevant practice and publication activity
  • Very good to excellent command of the English language
  • Willingness and ability to present at conferences, teach and publish in English language
