Position Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Scientist (m/f/d) with a strong background in virology and molecular biology to join our highly motivated and dedicated Virology Research and Innovation Team at Hookipa in Vienna. Together with a team of experienced lab technicians the scientist will develop, design and execute scientific experiments focusing on a variety of basic and in-depth virological research questions.

Main Responsibilities:

• Design and perform experiments focused on optimization and further development of Hookipa’s arenavirus vector platform as well as basic arenavirus biology (using methods including genetic engineering, FACS, microscopy, CRISPR/Cas…)
• Lead virological research projects and a team of experienced lab technicians
• Oversee practical and theoretical training of team members.
• Assist in project management & coordination with external collaboration partners in order to meet timelines and milestone achievements.
• Effectively communicate and present (internally and externally) scientific results in oral and written forms.
• Manage team resources and timelines, coordinating the work of team members and external partners and prioritizing projects and tasks as needed.
• Maintain engagement of team members and promote their personal development.
• Contribute to a friendly and productive work environment, consistently thriving for improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

• PhD or MD in Virology, Immunology or related fields
• Minimum 3 years hands-on laboratory experience with strong background in molecular biology and virological techniques, optimally with post-doc or biotech experience
• Curious and critical thinker with an innovative mindset
• Background in cancer biology and experience in cancer vaccine development is a plus
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects in parallel and plan and prioritize work for lab technicians
• Independent and proactive work style, detail-oriented, well-organized
• Strong interpersonal skills, open-minded and flexible team-player
• Able to motivate others and lead by example; team lead experience is a plus
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Industry experience and experience with project management/project coordination is a plus

We are required by Austrian law to post a minimum salary. The minimum monthly gross salary for this position is EUR 4.112,- based on fulltime (40 hours per week); depending on experience and qualification salary can be negotiated. In addition, we offer a performance-related bonus payment and participation in our stock option compensation program.
