The Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna pursues world-class research in basic molecular biology. It is located at the Vienna BioCenter and largely sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim. With over 200 scientists from 40 countries, the IMP is committed to scientific discovery of fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying complex biological phenomena.
We are looking for a full-time research technician to provide primary support for the laboratory of Clemens Plaschka. The lab’s research focuses on RNA biology and uses biochemical and structural biology methods (X-ray, cryo-EM) to study mRNA regulation in molecular detail.
The main responsibilities for this position will be:
1) General lab management and support;
2) Protein expression and purification;
3) Routine molecular biology techniques such as PCR and molecular cloning
Successful applicants should thus have a strong background and experience in molecular biology and protein purification. Working experience with protein production from insect or mammalian cells is highly desired. He or she should be friendly, interactive, well-organized, highly motivated and willing to learn new techniques. An ability to work as a team and good English communication skill are essential.
We offer a dynamic working environment, solid training in molecular biology and biochemistry of RNA-protein complexes, and the chance to gain experience in state-of-the-art cryo-EM methods. The annual gross salary starts from € 31.024, - full-time (40 hrs/week), depending on qualification and experience.
