The IMBA Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Science is an internationally recognized research institute that focuses on molecular medicine, stem cell research and RNA biology and is home to about 230 scientists from over 42 countries. It is located at the Vienna Biocenter, very close to the city centre of Vienna. Science carried out at IMBA is at the highest level and counts with excellent state-of-the-art infrastructure and top research programs for different scientific career levels.
We are looking for a responsible and motivated research technician (part-time, 20 h/w) to provide primary support with mouse colony maintenance and assist in scientific projects involving mouse experiments for the laboratory of Dr. Nicolas Rivron.
The lab’s research focuses on recreation of embryonic development using mammalian stem cells in a dish to better understand the encoded principles of self-organization.
The main responsibilities for this position will be:
Organize and maintain the lab´s mouse colony (weaning, ear clipping, genotyping, setting up crosses)
Perform simple mouse experiments
Degree (or equivalent) or extensive relevant experience
Prior training in mouse husbandry
Experience with use of mice in the laboratory
Experience in mouse techniques would be an advantage (e.g. i.p., s.c. and i.v. injections, organ harvest, surgeries such as vasectomy)
High independence level and good communication skills
A love of animals and a willingness to care for them
Fluency in English, German is an asset
