Job Description

Takeda’s Gene Therapy Analytics team is looking for talented and highly motivated candidates for pursuing a Master of Science program, in which the student will develop a quantification method of virus capsids based on Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) technology, which should deliver comparable results to the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method.

To date, different orthogonal methods were developed for the quantification of recombinant Adeno-Associated Virus (rAAV). Among others, ELISA is one of the most popular analytical tools used in the pharmaceutical industry, as it offers large versatility to detect specific serotypes and is a standard equipment in most of labs. Nevertheless, new technologies such as BLI offers a more sophisticated technology able to bring additional information (binding capacity, full/empty ratio of Capsids, faster quantification compared to ELISA, etc.)

The master thesis includes the Capsid quantification with BLI compared to ELISA, the execution of experiments under supervision, as well as data analysis and evaluation of results. The benefit of this master thesis is a new and faster technology for using immunoassays in process development.

  • Independent planning and execution of experiments

  • Data evaluation using selected mathematical software

  • Preparation and presentation of results in internal meetings

  • Evaluation of full/empty ratios of different rAAV capsid serotypes with machine learning

  • Evaluation of binding capacity of selected binding components to the capsids

  • Collaboration with internal and cross-functional teams and academic researchers

Our requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, preferred

  • Interest in programming and basic statistics

  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and knowledge

  • Willingness to work hands-on at wetlab and with teams

  • Excellent command of German and English

  • Position is limited - 6 month
