ACIB – the Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology – is one of the leading research centres in the field of industrial biotechnology. ACIB is dedicated to joint research at the industrial-academic interface. Seven Austrian Universities and more than 25 leading industry partners are working together within the ACIB research program.
Starting with April 2017, ACIB offers in Vienna a
Master thesis - Growth and infection studies of different insect cell lines using a micro fermentation unit
Aim of the study:
The baculovirus/insect cell system has proven to be a very powerful tool for the expression of several complex proteins, especially multi-subunit vaccines. Production schemes currently used in industry are weakly controlled batch processes using wave bag, stirred tank bioreactors or even shakers. In this study the Biolector, a micro fermentation unit using micro titer plates, will be used to set-up a reproducible and well characterized processes for the cultivation and infection of insect cells, directly comparable to stirred tank bioreactor processes.
What you will learn:
Cell culture techniques
Recombinant protein expression in insect cells
Routine protein analysis (Western Blot, ELISA,…)
