The IMBA Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Science is an internationally recognized research institute that focuses on molecular medicine, stem cell research and RNA biology and is home to about 200 scientists from over 30 countries. It is located at the Vienna Biocenter, very close to the city center of Vienna. Science carried out at IMBA is at the highest level and IMBA has a great state-of-the-art infrastructure and top research programs for different scientific career-levels.
A highly-motivated master students are wanted in Ikeda Lab to carry out a master thesis project on the ubiquitin and autophagy research. Our lab is interested in how the ubiquitin-machinery copes with various stress responses including autophagy. In particular, we work on a specific type of ubiquitin polymers called linear ubiquitin chains, which regulates immune and autophagy pathways (Ikeda et al. 2011 Nature, Kumari et al. 2014 eLife, Asaoka et al. 2016 EMBO rep, Rittinger and Ikeda. 2017 Open Biology). A suggested thesis project is related to the ubiquitin ligases in the regulation of the ubiquitination-dependent autophagy regulation using biochemical, molecular, and cellular assays as well as model organisms. (More information about our research can be found here: http://www.imba.oeaw.ac.at/research/fumiyo-ikeda/)
We provide expertise in the ubiquitin and autophagy signaling research in the international environment with a wide variety of research techniques provided.
We expect the candidates with top-level motivation in the research topics, excellent communication skills in English, and a hard-working attitude. Candidates with laboratory experiences using basic molecular, cellular and biochemical techniques (DNA purification, PCR, sub cloning, western blotting and tissue culture) are preferred, but not essential.
Expected starting date: Summer to early Autumn, 2017
If you are interested in this position, please send by email 1) a letter of motivation describing your interest in this research, and 2) a curriculum vitae including previous lab experiences and used techniques to firstname.lastname@example.org.
